It’s Freezing in LA!’s second issue continues the magazine’s mission to cover a wide range of topics about climate change, making climate discussion more accessible.

In its creative direction, IFLA 2 counters polarisation within climate communication by mixing the visual language of perceived opposites, science and activism. On the cover, oversized typography references protest signs while the red and green graphics develop the use of climate data that Issue 1 initiated.

At the time of IFLA! 2’s planning, the threat of extreme events and tipping points were becoming observible in real weather events, with increasing global wildfires. The graphics in Issue 2 were made from film stills – sourced from a video uploaded to YouTube – of smoke from the California wildfires which spread across the US state, causing residents to flee their homes.
